چکیده
Abstract Background In this research work, a coupled heat and mass transfer model was developed for salt recovery from concentrated brine water through an osmotic membrane distillation (OMD) process in hollow fiber contactor (HFMC).The built based on the resistance-in-series concept transport across hydrophobic membrane. The adopted to incorporate effects of polarization layers such as temperature concentration polarization, well viscosity changes during concentration. Results modeling equations were numerically simulated MATLAB® successfully validated with experimental data literature deviation within range 1–5%. then applied study key parameters like feed concentrations, solution concentration, feed, flow rates overall coefficient flux improve efficiency. balance calculate area coefficient. Finally, scale-up MD industrial scale proposed. Conclusions This highlights effect wastewater using process. Further, applicability OMD large investigated. Sensitivity analysis performed identify parameters. From results study, it is concluded that can be promising wastewater.

متن کاملNumerical simulation of heat and mass transfer in direct contact membrane distillation in a hollow fiber module with laminar flow
The heat and mass transfer processes in direct contact membrane distillation (MD) under laminar flow conditions have been analyzed by computational fluid dynamics (CFD). A two-dimensional heat transfer model was developed by coupling the latent heat, which is generated during the MD process, into the energy conservation equation. In combination with the Navies-Stokes equations, the thermal boun...
متن کاملMembrane Distillation for Water Recovery and Its Fouling Phenomena
The total volume of water on Earth is circa 300 million cubic miles, with close to 98.0% being salt water and the remaining 2.0% fresh water. It has been increasingly more challenging to harvest fresh water from surface water, seawater and even from wastewater due to the combination of factors, viz. burgeoning population growth, rapid industrialization and climate change. Recently, membrane dis...
متن کاملHollow Fiber Membrane Bioreactor for COD Biodegradation of Tapioca Wastewater
The present work studied the application of membrane bioreactor (MBR) for tapioca wastewater processing that contained chemical oxygen demand (COD) ranging from 4000-9000 mg/L. A preliminary study was initially conducted in order to evaluate membrane performance with respect to its flux with MLSS concentration ranging from 4,500 to 10,500 mg/L. It was clear that fouling was observed during the ...
متن کاملFabrication and Characterization of Polyetherimide Hollow Fiber Membrane Contactor for Carbon Dioxide Stripping from Monoethanolamine Solution
In this research, process asymmetric polyetherimide hollow fiber membranes using ethanol (0, 2 and 4 wt%) as non-solvent additive in the polymer dope via phase inversion method were fabricated. Aqueous solution of 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidine (NMP) (90%) was applied as a bore fluid to avoid inner skin layer formation and water was used as the external coagulant. The morphology of fabricated membranes...
